NSDL Database Management Limited (NDML)

NDML is part of NSDL Group comprising of National Securities and Depository Limited (NSDL), NSDL Database Management Limited (NDML) and NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited.

NSDL Group was set up in 1996 to establish the first securities depository of India. After establishing a depository system of international standards in India, NSDL Group has successfully established ‘Tax Information Network (TIN)’ for Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, ‘Central Record Keeping Agency (CRA)’ for the New Pension System (NPS) on behalf of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), ‘KYC Registration Agency’ for Securities and Exchange Board of India, ‘SEZ Online’ Project on behalf of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, ‘National Payment Services Platform (NPSP)’ on behalf of Department of Information Technology, Government of India and ‘National Skills Registry (NSR)’ on behalf of NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Service Companies). NSDL Group also has received certificate of registration for setting up ‘National Insurance Policy Repository (NIR)’ from Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India(IRDAI) and done pilot implementation for establishing ‘National Academic Depository (NAD)’ for Ministry of Human Resource Development. NSDL Group also acts as Registrar of ‘Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)’ for implementation of UID mission in India and is also implementing a pilot project on behalf of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) for setting up Common Portal for Goods and Service Tax (GST).

NDML Projects

KYC Registration Agency (KRA) for Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)

KRA provides for centralization of the KYC records in the securities market. A client desirous of opening an account/trade/deal with the SEBI registered Intermediary shall submit the KYC details through the KYC Registration form and supporting documents. The Intermediary shall perform the initial KYC and upload the details on the system of the KYC Registration Agency (KRA). This KYC information can be accessed by all the SEBI Registered Intermediaries while dealing with the same client. As a result, once the client has done KYC with a SEBI registered intermediary, he need not undergo the same process again with another intermediary.

SEZ Online for Ministry of Commerce and Industry

Government of India (GOI) has identified that strong and well-functioning Special Economic Zones (SEZ) are a critical agent for the growth aspirations of the country. Therefore GOI has put in place comprehensive SEZ Act and Rules streamlining and simplifying the administrative and legal infrastructure to encourage growth of SEZs and growth of export oriented business out of the SEZ.

Keeping in line with the expectation of EXIM Policy of enabling electronic processing of transactions, the SEZ Online enables online submission and processing of all applications and claims processed under SEZ Act.

SEZ Online is a total integrated solution offered by NDML for the administration of SEZ to facilitate speedy processing of various transactions that SEZ developers/units have with SEZ administration.

National Skills Registry (NSR) for National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM)

NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Service Companies) is the premier trade body and the chamber of commerce of the IT software and services industry in India with over 1200 members. NASSCOM's member companies are in the business of software development, software services, software products, IT-enabled / BPO services and e-commerce.

National Skills Registry is a NASSCOM initiative to have a robust and credible information repository about all persons working in the industry. This develops trusted and permanent fact sheet of information about each professional along-with background check reports. This is a security best practice for the industry and assures identity security, industry acceptance to honest professionals.

National Payment Services Platform (NPSP) for Department of Information Technology

Over the past decade, there have been islands of e-Governance initiatives in the country at the National, State, District and even Block level. Department of Information Technology (DIT), as part of National e-Governance Plan, is assessing the possibility of end-to-end transactional experience for a citizen using e-Governance infrastructure which includes accessing various services through Common Service Centers and online payments using internet based payment gateway interface. In view of this, DIT has appointed NDML to provide payment gateway services for e-Governance Projects.

NDML has successfully launched the National Payment Services Platform (NPSP) and is currently implementing it with more than 45 Central and State Government Departments.

Users and Service Providers

e Insurance Account (eIA) Holder

A policyholder / proposer who wishes to hold insurance policies in electronic form can open an e-Insurance account (eIA) through an Approved Person (AP) appointed by NIR. Once eIA is opened, the policyholder / proposer can get a credit of insurance policies from insurance companies in the eIAinstead of physical policy document . eIA will provide ease to the customer to carry out policy servicing and maintenance requests.

Insurance Companies

Insurance companies will credit the policies in the eIA of the policyholder / proposer who have opted for an electronic issuance of a policy.

Approved Persons (AP)

Approved Persons (AP) are service providers of NIR. An AP will facilitate eIA opening and any changes in the eIA details upon the request of the individual.

AP will carry on the following eIA servicing request

  • Change in eIA holder details
  • Change in bank account details
  • Change in existing Authorized representative details
  • Replace existing Authorised representative
  • Change in contact details of eIA holder/Authorised representative
Authorised representative

An Authorised Representative is a person appointed by eIA holder, who can access eIA in an unfortunate event of the eIA holder’s demise or incapacity to access the eIA. The Authorised Representative can only access the e-Insurance Account and view the portfolio of insurance policies. The Authorised Representative may be same person or different person from the nominee in a policy. The eIA holder has the right to change the Authorised Representative during the term of eIA. eIA holder should change the Authorised Representative on the Authorised Representative’s demise. Where an eIA is operated by the Authorised Representative, NIR may block the eIA for any further transactions. In such a case, every transaction shall be routed through the respective insurers.
