NSDL Database Management Limited (NDML) has been approved by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for setting up an Insurance Repository. NDML has set-up the Insurance Repository services and named it as NSDL National Insurance Repository (NIR). NIR facilitates holding of all insurance policies in a single e-Insurance Account (eIA)
NDML is sensitive to privacy issues on the internet. It is therefore important for you to know how the information we receive from you is treated.
By creating an eIA in NSDL National Insurance Repository (NIR), we accumulate information about you as below:
- Registration: In order to create a unique e Insurance Account (eIA) and to allow for seamless access to your account; the login id, password (stored in encrypted format), hint question, hint answer (in encrypted format) are collected.
- Bank details: Details such as Account type, Account Number, Bank Name, Copy of Cancelled cheque are collected.
- Policy details: Policy / ies credited by Insurance Company to your eIA.
- Other Information: Information of the pages/links you visit / access on our site, the number of times you access each page etc are also collected.
One of the purposes of creating the repository is to eliminate the need for repeated KYC for a proposer of an insurance policy. The information will be passed to such Insurance Company only after you have purchased an Insurance Policy and the Insurance Company has credited the policy to your eIA. The Insurance Company will not have access to your eIA.
An Authorised Representative will have access to the eIA to know the portfolio of insurance policies. This access will be activated only upon the demise or the eIA holder being incapacitated so that the policies are taken to a logical conclusion. Even if the access is activated for the Authorised Representative, the Authorised Representative cannot perform any transaction in this eIA.
- Modification of profile information: NIR provides you the access to view and update your eIA. You can update or change the profile information of your eIA by filling the Change request form and submitting the requisite documents to the Approved Person or to Insurance Company, offering such facility, which has credited an insurance policy in your eIA.
- Deactivation of profile information: NIR provides you the ability to deactivate your eIA. For this you either need to open a separate eIA with other Insurance Repository and transfer the policy / ies to the new eIA or convert the policies in the existing eIA to physical form. Once your eIA is deactivated, it cannot be accessed by anyone. If at a later date you need to again open an eIA, you can do so by filling the information in e-Insurance Account (eIA) Opening Form. Please be informed that as per the IRDAI guidelines you can hold only one eIA.
